Student Services Overview
Vision Statement:
Educational Excellence is the Right of Every Student.
Mission Statement:
The Student Services Department empowers students to succeed by promoting attendance, fair and consistent discipline, health and wellness, mental and behavioral support, and educational opportunities, while partnering with schools to foster a positive learning environment and student success.
Attendance & Truancy
The District is focusing on promoting consistent student attendance to improve academic achievement and engagement. Key goals include identifying attendance barriers, implementing strategies to reduce absenteeism, supporting families in developing attendance routines, and fostering a school culture that values being present and on time every day.
Compulsory Attendance-
Requires children between the ages of 6 and 19 years to attend school regularly as required by law (Texas Education Code §25.085). This applies to voluntary enrollment of a child in prekindergarten or kindergarten before age 6 and any student over 19 years old.
90% Attendance Rule
To receive credit or a final grade for a class, students in k-12 grade must attend at least 90% of the days the class is offered. Excessive absences excused or unexcused can result in loss of credit, even if the student is passing.
Chronic Absenteeism vs. Truancy
Chronic Absenteeism: Identifies students missing 10% or more of school days excused or unexcused.
Truancy: Enforce attendance laws when a student has 10+ unexcused absences under Texas Family Code §65.003, ensuring accountability and appropriate legal or behavioral interventions.
Report an Absence- Skyward Portal
Parents/guardians are required to submit a written note or doctor’s excuse upon a student’s arrival or return to school. Attendance records can be monitored through the Parent Skyward Portal. If you need assistance with your username or password, please contact your child's campus office for support.

-
-
-
CEHI instruction is provided at the student’s home by a Texas-certified teacher.
-
A student’s final grade depends on the completion and quality of assignments completed during CEHI, as well as work done in the classroom before or after the CEHI period. Please note, the CEHI teacher does not determine whether a student passes or fails a class.
-
To be counted present while out of school, students must meet with their CEHI teacher for a minimum of four hours per week.
-
Students must provide a Verification of Medical Excuse from a licensed physician to the Life Skills Coach to begin CEHI services.
-
If home instruction is needed prior to delivery, a medical release form must be submitted before CEHI can begin.
-
The PRS program is not responsible for exemptions from final exams or any impact CEHI may have on extracurricular activities.
-
Students are required to notify their CEHI teacher in advance if they need to cancel a session. Three no-shows will result in cancellation of CEHI services.
