The La Joya ISD District Advisory Committee (DAC) is seeking members to help guide the Board on improvement plans, educational goals, and instructional programs. This committee will include a diverse group of voices such as school and district staff, parents, business representatives, and community members, ensuring all perspectives are represented. Nomination and application periods for the 2024-25 school year run from November 13 to December 1, 2024. Tabasco fourth and fifth graders participated recently along with other students from across La Joya ISD in the Region One Education Service Center 2024 Score Big With Nutrition Food Expo at South Padre Island. It was hosted by the Region One ESC Child Nutrition Program - South Texas Cooperative. Students got to explore many aspects of healthy eating and living and participate in fun activities. They got to explore the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through what they put in their body, and how that could affect their entire well being. They also learned about and even participated in providing an opinion on the future of school food from the students' perspective. They got to sample many different types of cuisine and gave their immediate reactions on all of the new and interesting things they tasted and the potential of seeing that on their own plates in La Joya ISD in the near future. Excellent job to our campus representatives for showing that Tabasco students know how to participate meaningfully and respectfully in all events.
