Pharr PD Visit

La Joya, TX - As part of its commitment to preparing students for college and career success, La Joya ISD is creating meaningful, career-connected experiences. Recently, students from La Joya High School’s Law Enforcement Program had the unique opportunity to step inside the world of public safety through an immersive visit to the Pharr Police Department.

Consisting of a tour, presentation, and gaining firsthand insight into law enforcement careers, the visit provided students with an in-depth look at daily operations within the department, offering a behind-the-scenes perspective on the responsibilities, challenges, and impact of those who serve and protect the community.

Through interactive discussions, students engaged directly with officers, asked thoughtful questions, and explored potential career pathways in the field.

“It is so awesome to see students so open and interested in law enforcement and we are very excited to partner with La Joya ISD to welcome students for an in-depth look at the inner workings of a police department,” said Steven Guerrero, Officer with the Pharr Police Department.  “Opportunities like this allow us to show what we do and how we do it, while helping educate and empower the next generation of law enforcement professionals.”

La Joya ISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) leadership highlighted the value of real-world experiences in preparing students for future success.

“Experiences like this are critical in helping our students connect what they learn in the classroom to real-world careers,” said Pablo De Leon, CTE Director for La Joya ISD. “By partnering with organizations like the Pharr Police Department, we are able to provide meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities that inspire our students, expand their career awareness, and prepare them for life beyond graduation.”

Experiential learning opportunities like this play a vital role in preparing students for future careers by connecting classroom instruction with real-world application. By engaging with professionals in the field, students are able to build a deeper understanding of career expectations while developing the skills and confidence needed for success beyond graduation.

This initiative aligns with La Joya ISD’s strategic plan, Achieving Excellence Together: 2030, by supporting Priority 2: Empowered Graduates, ensuring students are equipped with meaningful, career-connected learning experiences that prepare them for college, career, and life.

La Joya ISD extends its sincere appreciation to the Pharr Police Department for their partnership and commitment to investing in the future of local students.
