La Joya, TX - Before the first school bell rings and long after the final dismissal, La Joya ISD’s school bus drivers are already hard at work - safely transporting hundreds of students each day and serving as one of the first and last points of connection in a child’s school experience. In recognition of National School Bus Driver Appreciation Day, the district paused to celebrate these dedicated individuals with a special breakfast in their honor.
Held on Tuesday, April 28, the appreciation event brought together drivers from across the district for a warm and meaningful gathering filled with gratitude and recognition. Attendees were treated to breakfast, uplifting student performances, and special tokens of appreciation as a way of saying “thank you” for the essential role they play in the lives of La Joya ISD students and families.
“Our drivers are the backbone of our transportation system and an integral part of our students’ daily lives,” said Jose Alaniz, Director of Transportation for La Joya ISD. “Their dedication, patience, and care do not go unnoticed. Today is a small way for us to recognize the tremendous impact they have on our district every single day.”
The celebration also highlighted the district’s continued focus on strengthening transportation services through strategic improvements aimed at enhancing safety, reliability, and communication for families across La Joya ISD.
“Our bus drivers play a critical role in the overall operation of our district,” said S.B. Pierson, Chief of Operations & Infrastructure. “They are responsible for safely navigating our students to and from school each day, and their work requires not only skill, but a deep sense of responsibility and care. We are incredibly grateful for their commitment and the role they play in supporting student success.”
As the celebration concluded, one message remained clear: La Joya ISD’s school bus drivers are more than drivers - they are trusted guardians of student safety, steady presences in daily routines, and valued members of the district family.
