La Joya, TX - As a demonstration of its commitment to student success and future readiness, La Joya ISD hosted its inaugural Career Quest Career & Technical Education (CTE) Expo, providing middle school students with an engaging, hands-on experience designed to spark curiosity, inspire ambition, and connect learning to real-world opportunities.
Held at the Lincoln Building Gym, the districtwide event welcomed 7th and 8th grade students from across La Joya ISD for a day centered on exploration, discovery, and possibility. Through interactive exhibits and live demonstrations, students were introduced to a wide range of high school CTE programs, including trades, engineering, automotive technology, and other high-demand career fields.
The expo served as a critical early step in helping students begin shaping their academic journeys by exposing them to career pathways before entering high school. By connecting classroom learning to real-world applications, the event empowered students to envision their futures with confidence and purpose.
“Events like the CTE Expo are incredibly valuable because they allow students to begin thinking about their future in a meaningful way,” said Melinda Flores, Executive Director of College & Career Success for La Joya ISD. “Our goal is to give students the opportunity to explore different interests, discover potential career pathways, and see how the programs offered at our high schools can help them build the skills they need for success after graduation.”
Throughout the event, students actively engaged with instructors and program representatives, gaining insight into the skills, tools, and experiences associated with each pathway. From hands-on demonstrations to interactive conversations, the expo created an environment where students could ask questions, explore interests, and begin making informed decisions about their futures.
District leaders emphasized the importance of providing early exposure to career-focused opportunities, noting that experiences like the Career Quest CTE Expo play a vital role in preparing students for both college and the workforce.
The inaugural event reflects La Joya ISD’s continued investment in developing Empowered Graduates - students who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive in an ever-evolving world. By creating meaningful opportunities for exploration and engagement, the district is ensuring that every student has a clear pathway to success beyond the classroom.
