Mission, TX - The cafeteria at Juarez-Lincoln High School was filled with energy and collaboration this week as La Joya ISD held its 7th Annual Community Outreach Event: Fostering Community Connections for Families of Bilingual Students.
This collaborative event, rooted in the district’s commitment to family engagement and community partnership, was hosted by the district’s Title I Part A - Student, Family & Community Engagement Department, the Special Education Department, and the Title III Bilingual/ESL Department.
With various community partners and organizations sharing information, resources and prizes, the annual event serves as a way to strengthen the district’s bond to the community by providing resources and showcasing excellence.
“This was a powerful example of what collaboration looks like at its best,” said Anna Marie Candelario, Deputy Chief of Academics & School Leadership. “By bringing together Title I, Title III, and Special Education, along with our community partners, we were able to provide families with a wide range of support and resources - all in one place. It is about ensuring our families know everything available to them across our campuses and within our district.”
Beyond being a vibrant celebration featuring student performances, refreshments, games, and prizes - families had the opportunity to engage directly with vendors and organizations offering services in education, health, and community support.
For district leadership, the annual event represents more than just an annual gathering - it is a reflection of La Joya ISD’s ongoing missions to build strong, lasting relationships with the community it serves.
“Each year, we intentionally create opportunities like this to connect with our families and strengthen that bond,” said Irma Zuniga, Executive Director of Bilingual & Migrant Education. “This is our seventh annual event, and it continues to grow because our community truly embraces the service and support we provide.”
With various departments hosting their events simultaneously, the community is given the chance to receive a diverse variety of support and resources for their specific needs. The mission of the annual Community Outreach Event directly reflects Priority 4 of La Joya ISD’s Strategic Plan - Community Trust, Unity, & Partnership. Through collaboration, open engagement, and accessible resources, the event fostered trust, promoted transparency, and reinforced La Joya ISD’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with families to support student success.
