LJISD Senior Career Expo

La Joya, TX - In a powerful step toward preparing students for life beyond graduation, La Joya ISD hosted its inaugural Senior Student Career Expo at La Joya High School, bringing together students, industry professionals, and community partners for a day centered on opportunity, exploration, and future readiness.

Designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and career pathways, the district-level event welcomed approximately 30 employers representing a wide range of industries, including construction, retail, and healthcare. With hundreds of job openings available, graduating seniors from across the district had the opportunity to network, engage with potential employers, and gain valuable insight into the workforce.

“This event marked a significant milestone for our district,” said Ruben Salazar, Assistant Principal at La Joya High School. “It went far beyond simply connecting students to jobs - it was about empowering them through meaningful community engagement and exposure to real-world opportunities. Our students were able to network, build confidence, and explore career paths they may not have previously considered. We are incredibly grateful to our community partners for helping us create this bridge from the classroom to future careers.”

Throughout the event, students actively engaged with employers, practiced professional communication skills, and gained firsthand experience in navigating the job market - an essential component of college and career readiness. For many students, the experience proved both eye-opening and impactful.

“This event was incredibly innovative and helpful for students who may still be unsure about their future,” said Jose Bazan, a senior from Juarez-Lincoln High School. “It gave us the chance to explore different career options, network with professionals, and learn how to present ourselves. Opportunities like this not only help us gain work experience, but also prepare us for balancing responsibilities like college courses. I’m truly thankful to La Joya ISD for hosting something that is helping us feel more confident about our future.”

The event was made possible through strong collaboration with community partners, including Workforce Solutions, whose presence played a key role in connecting students with employment opportunities.

“We were proud to partner with La Joya ISD to host this job fair and support graduating seniors,” said Rolando Perez, Deputy Director of Business Services for Workforce Solutions. “With around 30 employers and a wide range of job openings, students were able to explore opportunities across multiple industries. Events like this are essential in helping students take that first step into the workforce.”

Educators also emphasized the importance of providing students with authentic, real-world experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

“This inaugural job fair was designed to connect students directly with employers and provide them with a realistic view of today’s job market,” said Isaac Sanchez, Government and Politics Instructor at La Joya High School. “It gave students the opportunity to engage professionally, understand expectations, and begin shaping their paths after graduation. We are grateful to all the employers and partners who participated, as well as our district leadership for making this impactful experience possible.”

The Senior Student Career Expo reflects La Joya ISD’s ongoing commitment to developing empowered graduates who are prepared to thrive in college, career, and life. By fostering strong community partnerships and creating meaningful opportunities for students, the district continues to invest in the success of its future workforce.
