La Joya, TX - In a powerful celebration of creativity, dedication, and student voice, Palmview High School has earned multiple recognitions at the prestigious Palm Awards - an annual, high-profile event that honors excellence in high school theater across the Rio Grande Valley.
More than an awards program, the Palm Awards were founded to elevate and support young talent in South Texas. The annual awards make a lasting impact by awarding thousands of dollars in scholarships and connecting students with industry professionals. The Palm Awards represent a transformative platform that elevates student talent, fosters a deep appreciation for the arts, and inspires the next generation of performers, creators, and storytellers.
Among the talent recognized was Palmview High School’s production of Ride the Cyclone, which earned several honorable mentions, including Best Technical Execution of a Musical, Best Ensemble, Best Choreography, and Best Production of a Musical - a testament to the exceptional teamwork, creativity, and dedication demonstrated both on and off the stage.
Individual student performers also received well-deserved recognition. Andrea Hernandez was nominated for Best Performer in a Featured Role of a Musical for her role as The Amazing Karnak, while Kailyn Portillo earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Constance Blackwood. Natalie Castañeda received an honorable mention for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance as Jane Doe.
“These recognitions speak volumes about the talent, passion, and commitment of our students and educators,” said Ruben Adame, Director of Fine Arts for La Joya ISD. “Fine Arts programs provide students with opportunities to build confidence, find their voice, and develop skills that extend far beyond the stage. The Palm Awards not only celebrate excellence - they open doors, inspire dreams, and affirm that our students belong in every space where creativity and talent shine.”
Aligned with La Joya ISD’s strategic plan, Achieving Excellence Together: 2030, these accomplishments reflect Priority 3: Thriving Students by providing enriching Fine Arts experiences that nurture creativity, confidence, and student success.
Nominations for the 8th Annual Palm Awards were announced on Wednesday, April 8, with the highly anticipated ceremony set to take place on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the McAllen Performing Arts Center. The event brings together more than 1,500 students from over 25 schools and features more than 25 award categories, all under a red-carpet spotlight that celebrates the very best in student theater.
La Joya ISD proudly congratulates Palmview High School’s theater students and staff on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to celebrating their continued success on the Palm Awards stage this May.
