La Joya, TX - Competing among the brightest young minds in the state, La Joya ISD students demonstrated exceptional talent, innovation, and academic excellence at the Texas Science and Engineering Fair held at Texas A&M University - one of the most prestigious science competitions in Texas.
A total of 12 La Joya ISD students earned the opportunity to compete at the state level after qualifying at the Regional Science Fair in Brownsville this past January, representing the district with confidence, dedication, and a passion for discovery.
Among the standout participants, two students received special recognition for their outstanding research and innovation. Jaziel Cantu of Memorial Middle School was awarded the Broadcom Coding with Commitment Special Award, along with a $250 prize, for his work utilizing coding to create a positive impact within his community. Nathan Montelongo of Lorenzo de Zavala Middle School earned the Texas Master Naturalist Special Award and a $250 prize for his project focused on environmental awareness and conservation.
“These accomplishments speak volumes about the curiosity, creativity, and determination of our students,” said Brenda Garcia, Executive Director of K-12 Math and Science for La Joya ISD. “To compete and be recognized at this level is no small feat. Our students are not only excelling academically, but they are also using their knowledge to solve real-world problems and make meaningful contributions to their communities.”
