La Joya ISD is celebrating one of its own as Rosa Aguilar, a kindergarten teacher at Lloyd M. Bentsen Jr. Elementary School, has been nominated for the prestigious National Life Group’s 2025–26 LifeChanger of the Year Award - a national honor recognizing outstanding K-12 educators and school district employees who make a lasting impact through excellence, leadership, and service.
At the heart of La Joya ISD are educators whose dedication to students, academic excellence, and purposeful leadership define the district’s mission. Aguilar’s nomination reflects that commitment and spotlights the meaningful work taking place in classrooms across the district.
Aguilar was nominated by parent Angela Martinez, who praised her ability to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where students feel supported, confident, and empowered. Known for leading with compassion and intention, Aguilar prioritizes both academic growth and emotional well-being from the very first day of school.
More than a classroom teacher, Aguilar serves as a guide, advocate, and encourager for her students. She fosters a culture rooted in trust, curiosity, and confidence, ensuring each child receives the individualized support they need to thrive.
“Teaching is about more than lessons - it’s about relationships,” Aguilar said. “I believe every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and confident in who they are. Being nominated for this award is truly an honor, and it reflects the incredible students and families I have the privilege of working with every day.”
A key strength of Aguilar’s approach is her dedication to building strong partnerships with families. Through consistent and open communication, she works closely with parents to better understand each child’s unique circumstances, helping bridge the gap between home and school.
In her nomination, Martinez shared that Aguilar’s impact extends well beyond the classroom:
“She is not just changing lives - she is shaping futures and instilling confidence, perseverance, and a love of learning in her students, including my child,” she said.
District leaders say Aguilar’s recognition aligns directly with La Joya ISD’s strategic priorities and vision for Achieving Excellence Together: 2030, which emphasizes high-quality instruction, student well-being, and strong school-community partnerships.
“We are incredibly proud to see one of our educators recognized on a national stage,” said Dr. Derek Little, Chief of Academics & School Leadership. “Mrs. Aguilar represents the very best of La Joya ISD. Her passion, professionalism, and heart for students exemplify our mission and reinforce that when educators are empowered, students flourish.”
Since its launch in 2011, the LifeChanger of the Year program has recognized more than 8,600 educators nationwide and awarded over $850,000 to winners and their schools. Award recipients are selected by a committee of former winners and education professionals, with announcements expected in early 2026.
La Joya ISD proudly celebrates Aguilar’s nomination and extends its gratitude to educators across the district who continue to inspire, uplift, and change lives - proving that excellence begins in the classroom and extends far beyond it.
