LJISD Pack Stadium Undergoing Upgrades

La Joya, Texas - La Joya ISD is moving forward with upgrades at PACK Stadium as part of a districtwide scoreboard and video display project approved by the La Joya ISD School Board in October 2025. The work reflects feedback gathered through ongoing planning, town hall meetings, and input from students, parents, and educators.

For generations, PACK Stadium has been a central gathering place for the La Joya ISD community. District leaders recognize the deep emotional and historical connection many families have to the space and understand that recent changes have prompted strong reactions. At the same time, the upgrades address long-standing facility needs resulting from years of limited investment in the stadium. The existing scoreboard at PACK Stadium is more than 17 years old and had become increasingly costly to maintain, requiring frequent repairs and upkeep that were no longer sustainable. Aging infrastructure and outdated technology made replacement necessary to ensure the facility met the highest quality and administrative expectations for safety, functionality, and student and community experience.

The need for these improvements was reinforced through community conversations and feedback shared during the superintendent’s Spring 2024 town hall meetings , as well as through the Superintendent’s Parent, Student, and Educator Advisory Committees. These discussions helped shape the scope and direction of the project, with a shared focus on improving facilities for students and the broader community.

“This decision was not made lightly.  We always want to respect the great pride our District has in its history, and our community also wants a clear vision for the future. We can do both with this upgrade,” Superintendent Dr. Marcey Sorensen said. “We listened to feedback from our community, our advisory groups, and our employees, District leaders, and there was consensus that our students deserve facilities that reflect their talent, dedication, and commitment to excellence. While change can be emotional, this investment is about our students and the future of La Joya ISD, and it is exciting to see this vision take shape.”

The nearly $2 million project includes a new outdoor LED video board and integrated sound system at PACK Stadium, along with new indoor LED boards at La Joya High School, Palmview High School, and Juarez-Lincoln High School. Once complete, the upgrades will significantly enhance the atmosphere of athletic events and community gatherings, creating an experience that reflects the pride of La Joya ISD.

“PACK Stadium had reached a point where significant upgrades were necessary to address aging systems and improve overall safety and functionality,” said SB Pierson, La Joya ISD Chief of Operations and Infrastructure. “Replacing the outdated scoreboard allows us to reduce ongoing maintenance costs while modernizing the stadium in a way that our students and community will truly enjoy and demonstrate our commitment to our District’s Strategic Plan.”

From an athletics perspective, the project brings renewed energy and excitement for student-athletes and fans alike.

“Our student-athletes put in countless hours of hard work and dedication, and this upgrade creates an environment that celebrates that effort,” said Jose Peña, Executive Director for Athletics. “We are excited about what this brings to PACK Stadium and the pride it will inspire across our schools and community.”

Installation is underway, with full completion expected ahead of the 2026 athletic season. La Joya ISD will continue to share updates as the project progresses.
