La Joya, TX - At La Joya ISD, Instructional excellence begins long before a lesson is delivered. It starts with intentional planning, deep understanding of content, and, a clear vision for student success. Through La Joya ISD’s Instructional Framework and Lesson Structure, educators are equipped with the tools to deliver high-quality, rigorous instruction every day. One such educator bringing this vision to life is Rosendo Garcia - an algebra teacher at Juarez-Lincoln High School.
Mr. Garcia’s thoughtful preparation and purposeful approach to teaching reflect the district’s commitment to education excellence.
At the heart of the instructional practice is Plan & Internalize - a critical component of the Instructional Framework that requires Mr. Garcia, and all educators, to prepare for upcoming Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings. This process ensures he begins fully internalizing the content, a process Mr. Garcia describes as “doing the math.”
“As an educator, it’s important to understand the intent and rigor of the lesson before delivery,” said Garcia. “Doing the math beforehand allows me to identify the main objectives, plan key questions, anticipate misconceptions, and develop a pacing guide that supports student understanding.”
By utilizing High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) and the Instructional Planning Calendar (IPC), Mr. Garcia engages deeply with the lesson structure, breaking down each lesson into clear, intentional components. This allows him to view the math from a student’s perspective, strengthening both teaching and learning.
“Working with HQIM and the IPC strengthens my teaching by allowing me to unpack math through the lens of the student,” Garcia added. “Purposeful planning truly leads to powerful learning.”
Through the implementation of the Instructional Framework, Mr. Garcia embodies Priority Two of Achieving Excellence Together: 2030, which focuses on Empowered Graduates. By delivering rigorous academics and cultivating an environment that supports and empowers students, La Joya ISD is ensuring excellence for all students.
La Joya ISD proudly recognizes Rosendo Garcia for his dedication to instructional excellence and for exemplifying how the Instructional Framework and Lesson Structure transform planning into meaningful, student-centered learning experiences.
