LJISD Hosts Annual Diabetes Awareness Community Walk

La Joya, TX - In a region where health challenges impact families every day, La Joya ISD is transforming knowledge, compassion, and community strength into action. Over the weekend, La Joya ISD families, students and staff gathered for the district’s annual Diabetes Awareness Community Walk - an event dedicated to raising awareness on diabetes management and prevention.

The walk is meant to promote the importance of healthy habits in a community where diabetes rates remain among the highest in the state and the nation, per the Texas Department of Health and Human Services.

Held at La Joya ISD’s Pack Stadium, the community event served as an important reminder that community support and education are vital tools in improving long-term wellness.

“Our goal is to ensure families know they are not alone in navigating diabetes,” said Annette Lozano, Executive Director of Students, Family, & Community Engagement. “By walking together, learning together and supporting one another, we are building a healthier community.”

In alignment with priority four of the district’s strategic plan, which focuses on community trust, unity, and partnership, the Diabetes Awareness Community Walk reflects La Joya ISD’s commitment to student, staff, and community wellbeing. Families had the opportunity to learn, connect, and move together while sparking meaningful conversations about prevention and inspiring healthier lifestyles.

Through events like this, La Joya ISD continues championing health awareness, unity, and taking meaningful steps toward a stronger and healthier community.
