LJISD's Jimmy Carter ECHS Among the Best in the Rio Grande Valley

La Joya, TX – La Joya ISD is proudly celebrating Jimmy Carter Early College High School as it continues setting the standard for academic excellence in the Rio Grande Valley. Recently, Jimmy Carter ECHS was named one of the top ten high schools in the region - a reflection of the commitment to student achievement, innovation and the pursuit of college readiness for every student. 

Ranked #8 by the non-profit education research organization Children at Risk in its 2024-25 regional schools rankings, the recognition highlights the school’s dedication to academic excellence, college readiness and student success - an achievement that reflects the dedication of school leadership, staff and students.

According to the recently released report from Children at Risk, Jimmy Carter ECHS ranks among the “Top 10 Rio Grande Valley High Schools”, placing eighth in the high school category and sixth among the “Gold Ribbon” high schools - a special designation for exceptional performance. The ranking is a reflection of various indicators - from college readiness to graduation outcomes - that underscore the school’s student-centered mission. 

By offering a rigorous early-college model, Jimmy Carter ECHS is fulfilling priority three of Achieving Excellence Together: 2030, which focuses on Thriving Students and creating enriching school environments where every student is inspired to grow in and beyond the classroom. Additionally, being named one of the best high schools in the region reflects La Joya ISD’s dedication to priority one within the strategic plan: Excellence in Leadership, which encourages the development of  strong accountable leaders who create conditions for high-quality instruction in every classroom, every day.
