La Joya TX - In every great classroom, there is a teacher whose influence reaches beyond the lessons taught. At La Joya High School, that teacher is Mr. James Muzquiz - an AP Social Studies teacher and U.S. veteran who was recently featured in KRGV’s Take 5 Teacher Tuesday Segment.
On Tuesday, November 11, Veterans Day, KRGV Reporter Idina Cantu stopped by La Joya High School to surprise Muzquiz with a special plaque and token of appreciation for his service to the nation and his community.
“More than an educator, Mr. Muzquiz is also a veteran and he uses that experience and commitment to inspire his students to think critically about history, civic duty and leadership,” said Eduardo Flores, Principal for La Joya High School. “His passion for teaching and dedication to his students’ success exemplify the values and spirit of La Joya ISD.”
For Muzquiz, service has always been at the heart of his story - first to his country and now to his students. With an unwavering commitment to shaping the next generation, Muzquiz feels that teaching is more than a career - it is a calling.
“As a veteran, I learned the importance of service and purpose,” said Muzquiz. “In the classroom, I have the chance to serve again - this time by helping young people understand the world, their place in it and the power they have to make a difference.”
La Joya ISD celebrates Mr. Muzquiz for his well-deserved recognition and thanks him for his continued service - both to his country and to the students he inspires every day.
