La Joya, TX – In the spirit of the spooky season, the La Joya ISD community transformed Pack Stadium into a world of imagination and wonder on Tuesday, October 28, as families and community members gathered for the district’s annual Trunk of Treat: A Night of Literacy Magic.
The event, which welcomed hundreds of staff, students, and parents, turned the excitement of Halloween into a celebration of learning, inviting families to travel through a living library where beloved storybook characters and scenes came alive. From classics to modern favorites, each trunk offered a unique reading adventure - along with plenty of candy, treats and fun.
Staff from across the district worked collaboratively to create the festive displays, blending creativity with literacy to make reading come alive in the most magical way. Beyond the candy and the costumes, the evening reflected La Joya ISD’s ongoing commitment to education beyond the classroom.
“La Joya ISD is proud to host events like our annual Trunk or Treat because it brings our families and community together for fun and learning - its just one of the ways we are constantly working to bridge the gap between school and home,” said Annette Lozano, Executive Director of Student, Family & Community Engagement. “Additionally, we are providing a safe environment for kids to have fun while encouraging them to discover the magic that lives within books.”
In line with our strategic plan, events like Trunk or Treat fulfill priority 4 in Achieving Excellence Together: 2030, which focuses on community unity, trust and partnership - a commitment to building strong relationships with staff, families and the community.
By intertwining literacy with family engagement, La Joya ISD continues nurturing a love for reading, strengthening community bonds and inspiring lifelong learners - one story at a time.
