tax rate

La Joya, Texas — During the September 24, 2025, Regular Board Meeting, the La Joya ISD School Board approved the 2025–2026 tax rate of $1.0025 per $100 valuation, marking a reduction from the previous year’s rate of $1.0533. By the school board’s vote to reduce the tax rate by more than 5 cents, homeowners are projected to save $50.08 on average on their annual school tax bill.  This decision reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and the prioritization of the needs of students and families across the community.

The adopted tax rate includes a Maintenance & Operations rate of $0.7552 and an Interest & Sinking rate of $0.2473, both designed to sustain high-quality educational programs and maintain financial stability for the district.

“This year’s reduction reflects our steadfast commitment to being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars while continuing to provide the best educational opportunities for our students,” said Mirgitt Crespo, Chief of Business and Administrative Services

“We are proud to see the impact of sound financial management that supports our schools, staff, and families,” added Crespo.

The 2025–2026 fiscal year tax rate aligns with recent state legislation, including Senate Bill 4 and Senate Bill 23, which raise the homestead exemptions for Texas homeowners and seniors, or individuals with disabilities. These measures, appearing on the November 2025 ballot, are expected to further ease the property tax burden for district residents.

In addition to responsible budgeting, La Joya ISD continues to focus on advancing student achievement, strengthening support systems, and aligning every initiative to the district’s Strategic Plan 2030. The district’s efforts in financial planning and instructional excellence demonstrate a unified commitment to Achieving Excellence Together 2030.

“Our mission is clear and centered around ensuring every decision we make is grounded in improving student outcomes,” said Superintendent Dr. Marcey Sorensen. “We are proud of the collaborative work happening across our community to support academic growth, fiscal health, transparency in the use of public dollars, and building community trust. La Joya ISD remains committed to excellence in all we do.”

Through careful financial management and a vision rooted in excellence in every classroom and campus, La Joya ISD continues to provide high-quality education while ensuring taxpayers receive responsible and transparent reporting on how their dollars are being spent to improve the lives of the students and families in the community.  Both the Board and the Superintendent take this opportunity to continue to demonstrate their commitment to this work now and in the future.
