Region One ESC Welcomes Mendiola Elem. Parent Volunteers to Parent Learning Session

La Joya, TX – In its ongoing efforts to strengthen community connections and bridge the gap between home and school, La Joya ISD is commending the parent volunteers of Dr. Mendiola Elementary School for their active participation in a recent parent learning session hosted by the Region One Education Service Center.

The event brought together parents, educators, counselors and school leaders for a day of learning that focused on empowering families through practical tools and strategies that support student success and well-being.

Beyond that, the workshop also focused on strengthening community connections between home and schools – a fundamental aspect at the heart of La Joya ISD’s strategic plan, Achieving Excellence Together: 2030.

Throughout the sessions, participants explored essential topics, like building resilience and healthy relationships, promoting smart digital habits for children and teens and accessing parent guides on mental health and substance abuse. These valuable insights not only equipped parents with effective strategies but also reflected their deep commitment to fostering their child’s social, emotional and academic growth – core values that define La Joya ISD.

“These opportunities are so valuable to families, as well as the district, because it’s a chance for the community to gather in support of our students,” said Annette Lozano, Executive Director for Student, Family & Community Engagement. “When families and educators work hand in hand, students benefit from a consistent message of support and encouragement – both in the classroom and at home.”

District leaders praise the dedication of the Mendiola Elementary guidance counselors and parent volunteers, noting that their involvement underscores the vital role families play in building nurturing, supportive learning environments for every child.

La Joya ISD remains committed to building an environment where every parent feels empowered, every child feels supported and every voice contributes to student success.
