Jimmy Carter ECHS Hosts Inaugural Curriculum Nights

La Joya, TX – Commitment to strengthening partnerships between home and school is a fundamental aspect of the district’s strategic plan – Achieving Excellence Together 2030.

Priority 4 of the plan focuses on community trust, unity and partnership, which are at the heart of various district initiatives that allow families to engage and learn about the opportunities available to students.

Offering families the chance to take part in their child’s academic journey, La Joya ISD recently hosted its inaugural series of Curriculum Nights 2025: Pathways to Excellence.

Held from Monday, September 29, to Thursday, October 2, the four-day event gave families a first-hand look at how the district is supporting student growth.

“Families got to come into schools and learn about some key initiatives taking place in their child’s classroom,” said Dr. Derek Little, Chief of Academics & School Leadership. “Principals and teachers got to showcase the work underway and families got to learn about how their children are progressing and about the curriculum and instruction their children are receiving.”

Additionally, parents and guardians had the opportunity to ask questions, share feedback and gain a deeper understanding of district initiatives – like the priorities being pursued and the goals that will measure the success against those priorities. Beyond that, they also learned about student data, curriculum goals and ways families can partner with schools to support achievement.

“Curriculum Nights was an introduction and invitation to create partnerships with our parents,” said Dr. Efrain Reyna, Principal at Rosendo Benavides Elementary School. “We want them to know about our activities, our curriculum and our transparency; it is only with them that we can accomplish our academic goals!”

La Joya ISD extends a heartfelt thank you to all parents and guardians who made this inaugural series a success. Because of them, we are able to celebrate a strengthened connection between families and schools – an effort that will continue as we build trust, unity and collaboration across the La Joya ISD community.
