Recognition of La Joya ISD Teachers Selected for TEA Assessment Committees

La Joya, TX – La Joya ISD is proud to celebrate 10 of its educators who, over the summer, were selected to participate in the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) assessment development committees.

Meant to help shape the future of education, these committees allow educators from across the state to participate in conversations and decision-making that ensure state tests, like STAAR and TELPAS, reflect what students are taught.

“Every year, the development of high-quality assessment relies on the expertise and experience of Texas educators,” said Jamie Miller, Chief of Human Capital & Talent Development. “By helping the TEA refine state assessments, our educators judge the appropriateness, content and difficulty of test items ensuring fairness for all Texas students.”

Joining over 1,000 teachers, these La Joya ISD educators review and improve current testing across Texas by providing valuable input to help design test questions that produce the best outcomes for students.

This achievement was formally recognized during this week’s school board meeting where educators Marissa Cisneros, Karina Perales, Damian Benavides, Julio Frayre, Liliana Munoz, Isela Garza, Pedro De La Fuente Silva, Isabel Hernandez, Annabel Cruz and Ivonne Rivera were acknowledged for their contributions to education.

“The impact, brilliance and excellence of these amazing educators is being felt state-wide,” said Dr. Marcey Sorensen, Superintendent of School for La Joya ISD. “To have these members of our workforce, our teaching staff, represent La Joya ISD at the state level makes us so proud.”

Getting to represent La Joya ISD in this prestigious manner aligns directly with the district’s Achieving Excellence Together 2030 Strategic Plan, particularly with the district’s focus on empowering graduates through rigorous academics and showcasing excellence in leadership.

“You are demonstrating across the system that our teachers are leaders too,” stated Sorensen. “You are bringing fresh insights into your classrooms that directly benefit students. Thank you for representing La Joya ISD and thank you for all you do for our students every day!”

La Joya ISD is proud of these teachers whose work goes beyond the classroom to impact students statewide. Their expertise helps ensure La Joya ISD’s mission of educational excellence.
