Dr. Marcey Sorensen

On August 27, 2025, the La Joya ISD Board Members completed the annual evaluation of Superintendent Dr. Marcey Sorensen as part of the district’s governance process and voted unanimously to extend her contract through 2030. The decision ensures continuity in leadership and a sustained focus on student success in the years ahead.

The annual review, conducted under the Texas Education Code, serves as an important tool for accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement. The evaluation examined key areas such as academic outcomes, instructional leadership, organizational management, stakeholder engagement, and progress toward district goals.

Board President Julian Alvarez III emphasized the importance of the extension in supporting the district’s momentum.

“I am grateful to Dr. Sorensen and excited that we will be working together for the next five years,” Alvarez said. “We are very appreciative of the leadership she has demonstrated here in our great District, and I am confident that under her leadership, we will continue to succeed.”

Since joining La Joya ISD in February 2024, Dr. Sorensen has led several major initiatives, including the development of the district’s five-year strategic plan, balancing the budget, implementing high-quality instructional materials, and conducting a thorough audit of both financial systems and special education services. These efforts aim to strengthen leadership coherence and instructional alignment across campuses, ensuring that every classroom, every campus, and every dollar is focused on advancing student success.

Dr. Sorensen expressed her appreciation for the Board’s support and the opportunity to continue serving the district.

“I am honored by the Board’s confidence and their commitment to working alongside me and my team in service of our students and community,” Sorensen said. “Together, we will continue to focus on ensuring excellence for every student, in every classroom, every day.”

The completion of the evaluation and the contract extension reaffirm the Board’s commitment to strong governance, accountability, and student-centered leadership. The renewed contract provides continuity in direction and ensures the district remains focused on delivering the very best for students, staff, and families.
