La Joya, TX – La Joya ISD is celebrating a major achievement after the Texas Education Agency (TEA) released its 2025 accountability ratings. Among the district’s campuses, Enrique Camarena Elementary School earned an impressive A rating (91) - a recognition that highlights the school’s commitment to excellence and student success.
Beyond its overall rating, Camarena Elementary was also recognized for achievement across all six of the TEA’s distinction areas: English Language Arts/Reading, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Top 25% Comparative Academic Growth and Top 25% Comparative Closing the Gaps.
“I am very blessed to work among such amazing individuals,” said Dulce Diaz, Principal at Camarena Elementary. “Day in and day out, these teachers go into those classrooms with their passion and do what is best for our students. I am so proud of everything they do; it is because of their willingness and dedication that we received this distinction.”
The achievement was formally recognized during this week’s school board meeting. Camarena Elementary staff were honored before board members and members of the community as well as by district leadership, including Dr. Derek Little, Chief of Academics and School Leadership for La Joya ISD.
“Camarena is the only school within La Joya ISD to not only maintain their A rating but to actually improve it,” said Dr. Little at Wednesday’s meeting. “On top of that, Camarena is also the only school within the district to earn every distinction possible that the TEA awards schools. These achievements truly set this school apart not just at La Joya ISD but in all the state of Texas!”
While celebrating Camarena staff’s success, La Joya ISD leadership emphasized that accountability ratings are only one measure of success and continues focusing on student growth, innovation in learning and creating supportive learning environments. This mission is what frames the district’s five-year strategic plan – Achieving Excellence Together 2030.
“Part of this strategic plan includes empowering graduates,” explained Dr. Little.” “That is accomplished by a variety of goals that ensures every student is prepared with the academic foundation, skills and credentials they need for college, career or military readiness. Through rigorous academics and meaningful real-world experiences, La Joya ISD is ensuring every student is empowered to succeed.”
With Camarena Elementary setting a strong example, La Joya ISD looks ahead with pride and determination to continue rising together in pursuit of excellence.
