La Joya ISD Leadership Participate in Lone Star Governance Training

La Joya, TX – La Joya ISD is making significant strides in its mission to improve student achievement by embracing the Texas Education Agency’s Lone Star Governance framework – a comprehensive model that brings together school board members, Superintendent Dr. Marcey Sorensen and senior cabinet leadership for a shared commitment to improve student outcomes.

During a special called board meeting on Saturday, August 2, district leadership took part in an intensive Lone Star Governance training designed to deepen collaboration and develop a clear and unified vision for student success.

The training followed a continuous improvement framework built on the five pillars of the Texas Framework for School Board Development: vision, accountability, structure, advocacy and unity.

“This training reinforces La Joya ISD’s strategic mission to become an exemplar of governance and leadership practices that respond to students’ needs and aspirations,” said Dr. Sorensen. “By adopting this continuous improvement model, we are able to sustain progress and hold every decision – and action – to the standard of serving student success.”

At the center of the district’s Lone Star Governance goals are targeted areas of student achievement, including third grade reading, third grade math, eighth grade reading and College, Career and Military Readiness.

Held in a public forum, training promotes transparency and accountability offering the community insight into how district leaders are working together to drive improvement.

Lone Star Governance training asks leaders to continuously reflect on their role and how their choices impact the lives of students. La Joya ISD is deeply committed to ensuring the district’s governing and leadership practices are a model of excellence for how to intensely focus on improving student outcomes.
