Ethan Moya Shines Bright as La Joya High School's Basketball Star

LA JOYA — Ethan Moya, a formidable 6-foot-1-inch guard, commanded the attention of every defense he faced whenever he took to the basketball court for La Joya High School. With his exceptional scoring ability, rebounding prowess, flashy passing, and game-changing defensive plays including blocks and steals, Moya consistently dismantled opponents, leading La Joya to its second district championship in three years.

Having started as a sophomore on the Coyotes' 2020-21 team that ended a 16-year district title drought, Moya showcased his skills throughout his standout senior season, leading La Joya High School to another District 31-6A championship. As a result, Moya was honored as The Monitor's 2022-23 All-Area Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Moya played a pivotal role in guiding the Coyotes to an impressive 25-13 overall record, sharing the 31-6A championship three ways with Edinburg High and Edinburg North in a highly competitive district. 

Throughout the season, Moya averaged 20.9 points per game, 6.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.7 steals, and 0.6 blocks. His four-year career with the Coyotes yielded remarkable numbers, accumulating 1,990 points, 709 rebounds, 360 assists, 260 steals, and 128 blocks.

Moya's outstanding performance also earned him the titles of District 31-6A's Most Valuable Player and the Rio Grande Valley Basketball Coaches Association Most Valuable Player.
