PHA Baseball Signing

Palmview, TX - Years of hard work, perseverance, and dedication paid off in a major way at Palmview High School as three standout baseball players officially signed their letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level.

Surrounded by teammates, coaches, family members, as well as school and district leadership, Palmview High School celebrated Jaime Cordova, Joseph Martinez, and Rodrigo Duque during a special collegiate signing ceremony recognizing their achievements both on the field and in the classroom.

Jaime Cordova signed with Cisco College, Joseph Martinez committed to Odessa College, and Rodrigo Duque signed with the University of Arkansas at Northark, each taking the next step toward pursuing their dreams while representing Palmview High School and La Joya ISD at the collegiate level.

The ceremony served as a celebration not only of athletic accomplishment, but also of perseverance, leadership, and the commitment each student-athlete demonstrated throughout their high school careers.

“Baseball really prepared me for so much more than just the game,” said Cordova. “It taught me discipline, time management, and how to balance academics with athletics. I am really excited and ready to take this game to the next level!”

Cordova plans to study business management through the animal science department at Cisco College while continuing to pursue his dream of competing at the highest level possible.

“My ultimate goal is to play at the biggest stage that I possibly can,” said Cordova. “I really want to thank the coaches because without them, none of this would have been possible.”

Martinez, who signed with Odessa College, reflected on the excitement of continuing his baseball journey while pursuing a degree in sports medicine.

“The coaches at Odessa are awesome! They bring excitement and energy to the field and that’s what it is all about,” said Martinez. “My ultimate goal is to pursue my education and athletic ability in Odessa and thrive and try to be the best I can.”

Duque, who signed with the University of Arkansas at Northark and will be majoring in business management, emphasized the impact baseball and his coaches have had on his growth and development.

“Coaches definitely taught me how to be disciplined, how to work hard, and to stay committed to the sport and hard work overall,” said Duque. “I’m looking forward to continuing the journey, meeting new people, and continuing to develop.”

Palmview High School Head Baseball Coach Manuel Garcia said seeing the three student-athletes reach this milestone was a proud moment for the entire baseball program.

“To have three gentlemen sign and go play at the next level is an awesome feeling and it is so great to see them accomplish so much and know they are off to do great things,” said Garcia. “As coaches that is what we are here to do: strive to help students build character and prepare them for success beyond high school.”

La Joya ISD Athletic Director Joe Peña praised the students for the way they represented both Palmview High School and the district throughout their athletic careers.

“These young men have represented Palmview High School and La Joya ISD with tremendous heart, discipline, and character,” said Peña. “Today’s signing ceremony is a reflection of years of sacrifice, commitment, and teamwork. We are incredibly proud of Jaime, Joseph, and Rodrigo for earning this opportunity and know they will continue to represent our district with excellence at the collegiate level.”

The signing ceremony highlighted La Joya ISD’s continued commitment to developing student-athletes who excel academically, athletically, and personally while preparing for success beyond graduation.

This milestone aligns with the district’s strategic plan, Achieving Excellence Together: 2030, by supporting Priority 2: Empowered Graduates through meaningful opportunities that prepare students for college, career, and life success.

La Joya ISD takes immense pride in celebrating the accomplishments of Cordova, Martinez, and Duque as they embark on this exciting new chapter. Their success reflects not only their dedication and perseverance, but also the strength of the support systems surrounding them - from families and coaches to teammates, teachers, and the entire district community. As they continue their journeys at the collegiate level, they carry with them the pride, spirit, and excellence of La Joya ISD.
