JFK Elementary recently wrapped up a successful celebration of Read Across America Week, with students participating in a variety of themed days inspired by the beloved stories of Dr. Seuss. Throughout the week, students showed their school spirit while celebrating the joy of reading.
The celebration began with Fox in Socks Day, when students arrived wearing their brightest and most creative socks. Later in the week, students and staff participated in The Cat in the Hat Day by wearing fun and imaginative hats. The excitement continued with One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish Day, where many students dressed in red and blue or ocean-themed attire.
The week concluded with Green Eggs and Ham Day, as the campus was filled with every shade of green to celebrate one of the most recognizable Dr. Seuss stories. The themed days helped bring books to life and encouraged students to participate in reading activities throughout the campus.
A highlight of the week was a special visit from guest reader Mrs. Candelario, who joined kindergarten students in the library to read Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?. Students enjoyed listening to the lively story and practicing the playful sounds featured throughout the book.
The weeklong celebration helped foster excitement about reading while bringing the school community together. Students, teachers, and special guests all played a role in making Read Across America Week a memorable experience for the SMarTies of JFK Elementary.
