time capsule event

Despite a steady downpour, spirits were high at La Joya ISDโ€™s Centennial Time Capsule event, held at 10 a.m. at the Memorial Tree Park in La Joya ISD. As part of the districtโ€™s yearlong centennial celebration, the ceremony marked a historic moment: preserving the legacy of the 2024โ€“2025 school year for future generations.

Each of La Joya ISDโ€™s campuses was represented by principals and student ambassadors, who brought forward items that captured the essence of their schools. From photographs and school spirit gear to handwritten letters and campus highlights, students shared heartfelt descriptions of what their contributions symbolized.

โ€œThis time capsule reflects not just our past, but the pride we have in our present and our hopes for the future,โ€ said Dr. Marcey Sorensen, La Joya ISD Superintendent of Schools. โ€œEven with the rain, today was filled with joy, unity, and a strong sense of communityโ€”exactly what La Joya ISD is all about.โ€

Adding to the celebration, Palmview High Schoolโ€™s Mariachi Los Lobos performed under the gray skies, filling the park with vibrant music and energy. Their performance added a rich cultural backdrop to a moment focused on memory, legacy, and celebration.

The Centennial Committee, alongside district administration, coordinated the event, ensuring that despite the weather, the ceremony remained meaningful and memorable. The time capsule is set to be opened 25 years from nowโ€”on May 28, 2050. We hope that future generations will open it and feel the same pride, commitment, and love for community that marked La Joya ISDโ€™s 100th anniversary.

La Joya ISD extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who braved the weather to attendโ€”from community members and parents to students, teachers, principals, and district leaders. Your presence helped create a lasting moment in the districtโ€™s story.

As La Joya ISD continues to grow, this time capsule stands as a message to the future: We were here, we cared deeply, and we celebrated a century of education with pride.
