La Joya Independent School District Administration and Finance Office has consistently earned high distinctions and has been granted several outstanding acknowledgements for the past 8 years. For La Joya ISD, this year was no different, earning one award from The Association of School Business Officials and two awards from the Government Finance Officers Association.
While sustaining an exceptional reputation amongst school districts, La Joya ISD earned The Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from The Association of School Business Officials. La Joya ISD also earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association.
In a news release by The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) stated.“The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) is pleased to award La Joya Independent School District with the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting (COE). ASBO International’s COE recognizes districts that have met the program’s high standards for financial reporting and accountability. The school district earned the Certificate of Excellence for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year that ended in 2017.”
By participating in the Certificate Of ExcellenceProgram, school districts demonstrate their commitment to financial transparency. Applicants submit their Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for review by a team of professional auditors, who provide feedback to improve future documents. If the CAFR meets the requirements of the program, the document may receive the Certificate of Excellence. A district’s participation in the COE program can facilitate bond rating and continuing bond disclosure processes.
“The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to La Joya Independent School District by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainments represent a significant accomplishment by a government and its management”stated the Government Finance Officers Association news release.
“What used to be a goal is now an expectation and a standard,” stated Alfredo Andrés Vela, Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Finance at La Joya ISD.
With the continuous display of effort and integrity, the La Joya ISD community can rest assured knowing that the district’s financial statements are certifiably proven to be transparent and presented fairly by the awards received from these agencies. Congratulations to the Administration and Finance Office for the exceptional work they do on a daily basis that allows our school district to shine.
