On February 9ththe La Joya Independent School District showcased the many great things happening in its schools by hosting the 4thAnnual Why La Joya ISD event. This open to all free event took place at La Joya High School and brought in crowds of students and parents.

Here, the designated elementary schools, middle and high schools, and early college high schools played host to the of La Joya ISD population and welcomed neighboring school districts to showcase clubs, courses, and programs available at each of the campuses. Teachers, principals, administrators, and students from 25 specialty schools were on hand ready to meet attendees and available to answer questions on the spot.

“It is important for our community to be aware and be able to know what goes on in our schools as far as curriculums and opportunities for our students. We have some of the best programs in the Rio Grande Valley and even Texas,” stated LJISD School Board President, Armin Garza.

As an open enrollment school district, La Joya ISD invited everyone to explore the scope of schools and programs of choice and to discover the many facets of educational opportunities available within LJISD schools. Whether a child's dream is to become a doctor or a dancer, a cosmetologist or an engineer, La Joya ISD’s Opportunities and Choices Expo demonstrated how the district can provide the right tools to support that dream through innovation and choice in educational offerings.

“I am looking around at the many opportunities La Joya ISD is offering and I am excited to know that students get to graduate with college hours and some with Associate Degrees; and that helps students get a jump start in college at no cost to us – it’s great!” said, Irasema Salinas, LJISD parent.

Students enrolled in LJISD embrace the unique freedom to select an educational path tailored to suit his or her own individual interests through a wide range of options available district-wide and at every grade level. From traditional schools, to designated elementary, middle and high schools (in the areas of STEM, STEAM, FINE ARTS amongst others) to early colleges, and career-specific academies – students enrolled at La Joya ISD can get an early start on their future and find their career path.

Additionally, LJISD takes schools and programs of choice a step further by aligning educational pathways beginning as early as kindergarten and continuing through graduation. The District believes that students should have choices, and this district offers plenty of options to meet the needs of every student.

Visitors were also able to see student performances and exhibits, find information on dual enrollment and AP courses, and enjoy food, fun, door prizes, and a whole lot more!
