La Joya ISD “Drives” for Students and Raises over $20,000

La Joya Independent School District recently partnered with RGV Bert Ogden Motors for the “Drive for Your Students” Test Drive Event. In this fundraiser, Bert Ogden donated $20 per test drive at four different locations, with all proceeds going to the La Joya ISD Education Excellence Foundation. Over 1,000 people made it out, throughout the four days, and now their time donation will be used to fund scholarships for deserving 2017 seniors.

The event in itself not only made staff, community, and business members aware of the existence of the LJISD Educational Excellence Foundation, but more importantly educated contributors on the foundation’s mission of providing students and staff financial support for educational activities that enhance the District’s mission.

“The Educational Excellence Foundation is now tapping into business and community partners to contribute and stimulate our scholarship fund (whereas in the past) it was our own staff members being the sole contributors,” stated Julie Quintanilla-Garza, Business & Community Engagement Specialist at La Joya ISD.

As a primary goal, the foundation is dedicated to supporting and promoting excellent educational opportunities, programs, and incentives for students and teachers of La Joya ISD that are innovative and supplemental. The district is grateful to Bert Ogden Motors for giving La Joya ISD the opportunity to help send students financially prepared to post-secondary institutions. Also, a big thank you to all those who made this event possible and to everyone who came out and test-drove the wide range of vehicles.

“The Drive for Your Students Event allowed students and to see staff and community members come together in an effort to raise scholarship monies for our graduates, ” added Quintanilla-Garza.

With more than $20,000 donated through this effort, La Joya ISD will continue to transform lives and communities.
