On October 21st, the 3rd, 4th, and 5thgrade Gifted and Talented students from Narciso G. Cavazos Elementary participated in a video chat on campus with National Geographic Explorer, Dr. Vanessa Bezy, a sea turtle marine biologist and conservationist from Costa Rica.  This was the first time meeting Dr. Bezy.

She spoke to the students about the research she does with sea turtles.  Afterwards, students had the opportunity to ask questions, such as “What inspired you to do the work you are doing?” and “How did you get involved with National Geographic?”  Dr. Bezy shared words of knowledge and encouragement with students and explained to them how she is a citizen of the world.

These students are participating in National Geographic’s Explorer Exchange Program for the 2019-2020 school year, where they will collaborate with Dr. Bezy and apply the information they learned into their end of the year project.  They are very excited to be one out of twenty classrooms participating in this program.
