One of the very first concerns beauty school students have is how much it's going to cost, and how they're going to pay for it. La Joya ISD Career and Technical Education Department provide cosmetology students, the opportunity to earn their license while attending high school at no cost to the students. Students are able to graduate with cosmetology licenses ready to start the work force.

Juarez Lincoln High School took it a step further with their licensed cosmetology students when they earned the Michelle Lee Garza “Shellz” 1st Annual Memorial Scholarship. With this scholarship graduating cosmetology licensed seniors were each given a tote bag with Beauty Items and Hair Supplies with a value of $350.

This was possible through the help of “Shellz” family, friends and community who want to continue keeping her memory alive through helping those who share the same love for makeup as her.

“Each girl was provided with the necessary implements and tools needed to start off their new journey to a successful career”, stated Mrs. Maribel Suarez, JLHS Cosmetology Teacher.

Michelle Lee Garza or “Shellz” as many called her loved her profession as a Make-up artist; it was her passion as she was able to help her clients look and feel beautiful during their special events. Her family and friends remember her as an outgoing person with a beautiful smile. They remember the simple things that make her smile such as watching animal videos, the look on her face as she watched her clients expressions after she was done with their make-up, enjoying a rainy day in bed, spending time with her friends children, the smell of rain, her favorite drink chai lattes, holidays, family gatherings, peonies, hugs, random messages from old friends, road trips with lots of singing! Unfortunately she is no longer with us but they are glad that through this scholarship they are able to help out the girls who like “Shellz” love to do make-up and bring joy to others.

Juarez-Lincoln High School Cosmetology girls would like to thank everyone who donated to the “Shellz” 1st Annual Memorial Scholarship. Mrs. Suarez would like to thank Mrs. Lisa Alaniz-Ramirez, JLHS Receptionist for always keeping Juarez-Lincoln High School Cosmetology Girls in mind for such generous gifts to start off their new chapter in life.
