Principal Maria Flores-Guerra from Evangelina Garza Elementary has been named the Region 1 TEPSAN of the Year award by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA).
“This annual award recognizes school leaders who volunteer their time to support and advocate for TEPSA members in their region,” stated Harley Eckhart, TEPSA Executive Director. “… recipients of this award show commitment to advancing the principalship and the association, as well as serving as a voice for Texas students. We are grateful for their contributions to the profession and to our Association.”
TEPSA focuses on educational leaders learning with and from one another and has served Texas PreK-8 school leaders since 1917. The organization has more than 5,900 members who direct the activities of 3 million PreK-8 school children.
Mrs. Flores- Guerra has a history of leadership with service at Region One Principal Development Center and has completed Apple Academy and presented at the Region One Technology Conference for the past 3 years.
Flores- Guerra began her career as a teacher in La Joya ISD. She taught for 4 years, served as Bilingual Coordinator at La Joya ISD and has been principal for 12 years. She is very proud of the 25 years she has served at La Joya ISD and is a fine example for Region 1 and the entire state of Texas.
Honorees will be recognized at the TEPSA Awards Reception on June 12thin Austin.
