La Joya ISD Supports National Wear Red Day® 2010 La Joya ISD Public Information Department February 05, 2010
La Joya ISD staff from across the District demonstrated its support of National
Wear Red Day® by dressing in red on Friday, February 5, to increase awareness
of heart disease among women. It is estimated that one in four women dies of
heart disease, and living with it can lead to disability and a decreased
quality of life.
Blood pressure screenings will be scheduled at every campus during the month of
February to further encourage women and all staff to check for early signs of
heart disease.
Additionally, La Joya ISD’s instructional television station, KLJS-TV 17, will
broadcast an interview later this month with Cardiovascular Specialist Dr.
Hector Soto, who will offer heart awareness information and prevention tips.
The show is part of the Superintendent’s Health Awareness series that
highlights different areas of health and wellbeing every month and is produced
in partnership with Mission Regional Medical Center.
