The Office of Admissions and Records, with the cooperation of all district campuses, also enforces the Compulsory School Attendance Law by ensuring that students attend class everyday. The Compulsory School Attendance Law states that a child must attend school from age 6 to 18. Upon enrollment in Pre-K or Kindergarten, a child shall attend school. The Attendance Officer stationed at Admissions and Records works closely with the three High School Attendance Officers by coordinating the “Failure to Attend School” (Truancy) court dates with the Justice of the Peace from the Hidalgo County Precinct 3 and the City of La Joya Municipal Judges. Truancy charges will apply if the student is absent without an excused absence on 10 or more days or parts of days within a six-month period or 3 or more days or parts of days within a 4-week period. All parents are encouraged to send their children to school everyday. If your child is absent, excuses must be turned in to the appropriate campus personnel on the day the student returns back to campus or no later than 3 days of returning to the campus (See the La Joya I.S.D. Code of Conduct and Student Handbook). STUDENTS, LET’S STRIVE FOR PERFECT ATTENDANCE!
