Starting school early not only helps children get a head start but greatly improves their chances for success in life. From the tiniest of learners to college-bound graduates, La Joya ISD offers a world of opportunities—including arts, athletics, health sciences and robotics—to help all students achieve their greatest potential. LJISD schools offer a challenging and nurturing environment to help children discover and develop the full range of their talents and skills, while ensuring students are prepared for college, career and life.
Our Pre-K program helps children advance skills in core pre-academic areas such as literacy, math, and science, as well as in other essential areas such as art, social and emotional well-being, and health and wellness. Our child-centered approach ensures that children are exposed to a diverse array of learning activities and that they thrive in all areas of child development, creative thinking, complex problem solving, empathetic collaboration, curious investigation, and astute decision-making.
“It’s great to see the La Joya ISD’s Pre-K program establish the basic foundation students need to be strong readers, writers, and problem solvers. When these students enter the kinder program, we are able to experience the knowledge that students have gained in Pre-k.” stated, Sandra Gonzalez Director of Pupil Attendance and Records Retention.
LJISD is one of the few districts to offer a full-day high quality Pre-Kindergarten Program that is available in English and dual-language. Teachers also receive professional development to improve instruction to help them plan engaging lessons and technology-based activities.
In addition, the district has provided our Pre-K classrooms with iPads, to expose our students to academic technology and an early age. A major component of the Pre-K Program is the student progress-monitoring tool, which allows for teachers to track student progress in school readiness areas such as letter knowledge, phonological awareness, and math skills. This tool helps teachers adjust their lessons and activities to meet each student’s individual needs. Parent trainings are also provided as a resource to keep them informed of what instruction happens in the classroom so they can assist them at home.
It is important for children to receive an early high quality education to develop social and cognitive skills so they can be better equipped to succeed in Kindergarten and the school years that follow. La Joya ISD Pre-K Program establishes the basic foundation students need to be strong readers, writers, and problem solvers.
Parents can enroll their child in Pre-K classes for the 2017-2018 school year at their elementary school within their zone or at the Office of Pupil Attendance and Records Retention.
