Jose de Escandon Elementary celebrated the inauguration of a brand-new school marquee that has been a year and a half in the making. The school’s student council students collected the money required to pay for the marquee by spearheading several fundraisers. A marquee committee researched the different sign designs that were available and made their decision based on the best value for the cost.

The district media was invited to attend a special celebration held on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 during which the principal, Mrs. Mary Sepulveda, and the student council sponsors and members took pictures with the electronic marquee in the background. Amanda Diaz school student council vice-president said” I feel delighted that our school is the first to have an electronic marquee in our school district”.

Completed earlier this month, the double-sided, LED sign stands at the school’s main entrance to welcome and inform visitors to the school. Passerby’s can also see important school messages to the community, such as upcoming events. The marquee is electronic, colorful and is the first in La Joya ISD schools to have one.

“We would like to thank our awesome community for always supporting our school’s fundraising efforts. Without their support, this important milestone would not have been possible,” said Jose de Escandon principal, Mrs. Mary Sepulveda. “Last year’s and this year’s group of student council students and sponsors will always be remembered as the ones responsible for this amazing accomplishment. What a legacy to leave behind for future generations of Escandon students!”
