La Joya ISD offered 72 female middle school students the opportunity to attend the Girls Who Code Summer Camp 2018 at Irene Garcia, Domingo Treviño, and Lorenzo de Zavala Middle Schools.
These camps were made possible through a grant by the Texas Workforce Commission and the collaboration between the LJISD Technology Department and the Office of Grant Development.
La Joya ISD is 1 of 7 recipients in Texas, and the ONLY school district to be awarded this grant.

“Camp Code for Girls is an initiative designed to provide computer coding/programming summer camps for female students in grades 6 – 8.
The purpose of the initiative is to offer hands-on experiences that provide challenging and innovative concepts in learning, problem solving, and analytical skills while fostering an interest in computer coding/programming.” (TWC RFP 32018-00057)
Camps have been ongoing since June 4thand thru June 22nd, Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
