For the second consecutive year, the HEB READ3 Summer Reading Program has offered La Joya ISD families the opportunity to expand their reading horizons. Because of this initiative, district students and parents took a pledge to read together three times a week while also learning about healthy meal preps and nutrition.
Americo Paredes Elementary was the host site for current and new Pre-K students and parents. Here, students attended sessions and were provided with free books for the children, and nutrition classes for the parents.
Every day during the week of June 5-9th, participants were divided into groups of children and groups of adults. The children took part in literacy lessons and activities while the parents attended HEB food demonstrations and received recipes to take home. At the end of the week, everyone was gifted a backpack, school supplies, books, and gift cards – all provided by HEB.
La Joya ISD FACE educators accomplished an amazing task recruiting parents for this program through their perspective campuses.
Thank you to HEB for being an educational partner in our schools and community and for allowing La Joya ISD to be a part of such a wonderful project.
