Academy of Health Science Professions – STEM sophomore, Briana Aerlia Silerio, has shown through performance, example, and dedication that she is heading in the right direction as a future pro golfer. Recently, she participated in the Junior STPGA (South Texas Pro Golf Association) tournament where she earned the 2nd place medal amongst some pretty tight competition.

“I look up to golfers such as Lorena Ochoa who is a Latina top-ranked professional female golfer in the world,” stated Briana. “… hopefully, too,  one day the world can see how I play.”

Briana began the sport at the age of four, playing golf with her older sister Bianca (a 2015 Palmview High School graduate) who is currently playing Golf at Texas A & M University in Kingsville. Both sisters enjoyed playing the sport and were encouraged by their parents. It is because of this exposure that Briana now devotes herself to perfecting her skills at golf.

She trains to succeed. Briana practices six days a week for an hour on a game that she says allows her to forget daily stress and helps her maintain a positive outlook.

“Golf teaches responsibility, integrity and discipline,” adds Briana – encouraging other students to get involved. “I just love to play golf,  and I don’t think I’ll ever stop.”

Silerio aspires to become a great athlete and  attend The University of Texas at Austin. She hopes to continue to play golf as she studies for a career in pharmacy.

Congratulations Briana for making our school district proud and for your integrity and responsibility to the sport!
