Administrators from Juarez Lincoln High School have taken on the physically demanding task of walking 22 miles – literally – to help raise money for graduating seniors from their campus.

Assistant principals, Mr. Raul Gonzalez and Jorge Flores came up with the “Rays of Hope” scholarship fund walk-a thon fundraiser to assist deserving seniors with college costs.

“Students at our school are economically disadvantaged, and sometimes (especially for seniors) not having the money to continue their post-secondary education makes all the difference,” stated Mr. Jorge Flores. “We want our graduates to continue on to college and be successful, and not have finances be a barrier.”

The 22.1mile walk will begin at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle Shrine and end in Juarez Lincoln High School on Friday, March 11th. The “Rays of Hope” scholarship fund can only achieve its goal with the support of generous donations from everyone in our community (and if possible) from all over the Rio Grande Valley.

“We want everyone to know about this very worthy cause,” added Mr. Raul Gonzalez. “This is the first year we attempt to do this and we hope to have a great outcome and hopefully alleviate financial stress on those seniors whose goal is to go to college and pursue a career.”

With 100 percent of proceeds going to Juarez Lincoln HS seniors, every penny counts. Visit our district web page: to download a donation form or click GoFundMe to contribute to the cause online.
