Throughout the Fall months, La Joy ISD’s transportation department has gradually been growing their fleet of school buses obtaining 2 buses every week or so for a total of 10 brand new school buses. On average, the district facilitates the purchase of these types of vehicles every 2-3 years – replacing older models.

“These buses are transporting our goods, our gold (the children) to and from their homes and the investment that our district has taken is a quality investment because we are trying to give the students our best possible service, and we can do that with these new buses,” stated LJISD Transportation Director, Mr. Servando Ramirez.

With 187 routes and 195 buses currently operating, buses are equipped with air conditioner, heater, cameras, and radios where approximately 24-28,000 students are literally riding safely in first class style everyday.

“The drivers who were assigned to the new buses were excited, happy, and emotional,” added Ramirez. “ … each of them have been employed with district for 20-30 years, so they definitely deserved them.”

It is one of the goals for Ramirez and his transportation department to gain new buses every year. “Our bus drivers deserve them, the community deserves them, but more importantly – our students deserve them,” said Ramirez.
