The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has named La Joya ISD’s, Dr. Alda T. Benavides, as the recipient of the 2015 Superintendent of the Year (SOTY) award for Region 1.

A graduate of La Joya ISD, Dr. Benavides (who has been at the helm for the past 9 years) has been consistently and positively transforming the district into a college-driven culture. Through the implementation of the latest educational research and book studies, she has effectively improved academic achievement for all students.
On the regular, Dr. Benavides also meets and dialogues with diverse district stakeholders as a means of including those involved in the decision-making process. From principals to department personnel, to teachers, students, parents and the community, Dr. Benavides understands that the collaboration and integration of everyone is the force behind educational excellence. Through the participation of every entity, she ensures district goals are met and as a result the sharing and communicating of information benefit all.
Without a doubt, Dr. Benavides has truly dedicated her life’s work to the La Joya Independent School District and is a prime
example of what being a life-long learner is all about. She has proven that through hard work and perseverance, any person can achieve their dreams and live a life of success.
